Manual lymphatic drainage

A gentle, precise massage that stimulates the flow of lymph, helps the body eliminate waste and helps you regain a feeling of lightness.

A gentle lymphatic drainage on the back, in a bright, quiet room

Manual lymphatic drainage, using the Dr Vodder method, is a gentle, precise technique that aims to stimulate the flow of lymph throughout the body.

Performed with the hands alone, the drainage follows the path of the lymphatic system with specific, slow, regular movements and just the right pressure. In this way it encourages the flow of lymph and supports the body’s natural processes of elimination and defence.

Lymph plays an essential role in the balance of the tissues and contributes to the working of the immune system. By stimulating its flow, lymphatic drainage helps this system of regulation and defence work well.

A holistic, gentle and respectful approach to the body, an invitation to rediscover lightness, good circulation and balance.

Why lymph matters

Lymph is a fluid that circulates in a network of vessels running through the whole body. It helps maintain the balance of fluids in the tissues and carries certain cells and substances to the lymph nodes.

Unlike blood, lymph has no central pump like the heart. Its flow depends, among other things, on the body’s movements, on muscle contractions and on breathing. Movement and physical activity therefore play an important part in its circulation.

Along the way, lymph passes through the lymph nodes, small organs found in various parts of the body, particularly in the neck, the armpits and the groin. They play an essential role in the body’s defence mechanisms, filtering the lymph and taking part in the immune response.

So the lymphatic system has two essential functions: keeping the fluid in the tissues in balance and helping to defend the body.

When the flow of lymph slows down or is disturbed, fluid can build up in the tissues. Manual lymphatic drainage is designed precisely to stimulate that flow, with gentle, regular movements suited to each person.

When it helps

Lymphatic drainage can be particularly helpful for:

  • Heavy or tired legs
  • Puffiness and water retention
  • Oedema and swollen limbs, depending on their cause
  • A feeling that the body is sluggish or congested
  • Cellulite and orange-peel skin
  • Bloating and a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen
  • Supporting recovery after physical exertion
  • Encouraging recovery and a feeling of lightness after certain periods of fatigue
  • Supporting the flow of lymph when it has slowed
  • Looking after your body during periods of change or transition

Adapted to each person

Lymphatic drainage is not done the same way in every situation. The technique and the areas worked on are adapted to each person, their general condition and their needs.

If swelling is unusual, persistent or recent, you should seek medical advice before any session.

A complementary approach

These forms of support are part of an approach based on prevention, wellbeing and guidance, alongside other treatments.

They are no substitute for seeing a doctor. They work alongside medical care, never instead of it.
